Local Hill Country Attractions:
The Texas Hill Country
is home to many of our state's historic places and
multiple events.
Below are a few of the area attractions you may want
to visit while staying in the Hill Country.
Scenic Drive :
If scenic beauty is on
your mind, take a drive through the Hill Country from Hwy 27 West to Center Point at the light
take a left and tour downtown Center Point,
the town has a rich history dating back to the first
settlers in the early 1800's. Continue on hwy
482 to Camp Verde. Camp Verde has a interesting history as
being the site of the union army's first camel station in the
westward move of the mid 1800's. From Camp Verde take Hwy
473- to FM 2828 to Medina - the Apple Capital of Texas.
Stop for a taste of Love
Creek Apple Orchards pie. With a tummy full of apple
pie
take FM 337 to Vanderpool Turn right on FM 187 to
Lost Maples
State Park. Beautiful 2000 acre state park full of
trails and large Maple trees, Stop for photos to cherish
forever. Continue
on FM 187 to Hwy 39 to Hunt and Ingram Texas crossing the
Guadalupe River. Stop in Hunt at the general store and ask
for directions to Texas's own Stonehenge
From Ingram travel
back through Kerrville on Hwy 27 to Hwy 16 turn right 3
blocks to dip your toes into the cool waters of Guadalupe River
at
Kerrville Schriener Park the go back to Hwy 27 and come
home to Comfort.
Antiquing :
Start right downtown - Comfort is home
to MANY fine Antique shops with great bargains.
Fredericksburg just 20 miles north on Hwy 87 also offers many
fine antique stores. Boerne Texas 15 miles south on I-10 offers
lots of shopping opportunities as well.
Wine Tours: The Hill
Country currently claims about 22 wineries. All of these
wineries have helped make Texas the number 5 grape and wine
producer in the country. They beautify the area with a European
feel. Comfort and nearby Sisterdale is home to three of the best
wineries in the Hill Country. One is just down the street -
The Comfort Cellars on Hwy
27. There there is the Hill Country's newest winery
Bending Branch! Just a short drive to Singing Water Vineyards
and nearby
Sistercreek Vineyards are both well worth the visit. Also
Visit the Texas Wine Tours in
Fredericksburg for a luxury tour of the local wineries.
